  • Celebrate Filipino Culture in Baro at Sayá Fashion Show
  • After a successful campaign promoting Filipino culture through OPM music and traditional street games, Filipino fashion steps forward in Awit at Laro’s follow-up campaign, Baro at Sayá fashion show.

It’s happening on September 22, 2019 at the Grand Hyatt Manila, Bonifacio Global City.

Spearheaded by UNICEF Ambassador Gary Valenciano and Tukod Foundation’s Bambi Mañosa-Tanjutco, Awit at Laro launched the campaign last October 2018 to promote Filipino culture and celebrate the spirit of play—by reintroducing traditional games to the youth through music and the arts.

It also serves as a fundraiser event for UNICEF, Museo Pambata’s renovation project, and Tukod Foundation’s Pamato sa Pagtuturo Awit at Laro workshops for teachers.

This year, Baro at Sayá by Awit at Laro features eight local fashion designers and their unique collections, bringing the innately Filipino elements to the catwalk.

Featured fashion designers include Len Cabili, Ito Curata, Rhett Eala, Zarah Juan, Marga Nograles’ Kaayo, Anne Marie Saguil, Paloma Zobel’s PioPio, and Rajo Laurel who also serves as overall Fashion Consultant for the project.

Designers will present pieces with a story, with an aim to give children the opportunity to appreciate the Philippines’ indigenous fabrics. Said items will become heirloom pieces that can be passed on to the next generation.

Each designer took inspiration from the Awit at Laro songs assigned to them to create modern outfits using ethnic designs and weavings, set against the backdrop of Filipino traditional games and OPM.

What makes this fashion show all the more exciting is the Awit at Laro album with songs that inspired the designer’s collection, which will accompany the models as they walk through the runway.

Guest artists for the fashion show night include the Awit at Laro album producer Gary Valenciano, Darren Espanto, the TNT Boys, and Sofia Zobel Elizalde’s STEPS dance project with choreography by James Laforteza.
