As it approaches its silver anniversary, the much-awaited film festival will offer audiences an alternative form of cinema and contemporary French films that explore the depths of human relationships and the importance of family.

And with the festival kicking off on a very important day, the Philippine Independence Day, the festival will pay homage to Filipino cinema on June 12. This includes Mababangong Bangungot (“Perfumed Nightmare”) a film partly filmed in Paris by the National Artist for Film and Mass Communications, Kidlat Tahimik.

Further, the French Embassy and SPARK! Philippines will organize a special screening of Bande de filles (“Girlhood”). This is in line with France’s commitment to defend women’s rights, A forum exploring the issues faced by young girls in France and the Philippines will also be held on June 14, Saturday.

    Film Line-up

French director Nils Tavernier is also coming to Manila to formally open the 24th French Film Festival. His latest film, L’Incroyable histoire du Facteur Cheval (“The Ideal Palace”), will also be screened. The film recounts the true story of an ordinary mailman who devotes 33 years of his life to build a castle for his daughter.

Other films in the selection include French films released between 2014 and 2018, many of which focus on the relationship between parents and their children, such as De Toutes nos forces (“The Finishers”), Jusqu’à la garde (“Custody”), Dans la brume (“Just a breath away”), and La Villa (“The House by the Sea”).
