Ayala Museum Celebrates 100 Years of Komiks Legend Francisco Coching
The emergence of the classic Filipino komiks in the 1920s brought a then-aspiring Francisco V. Coching to the limelight. Posthumously conferred as a National Artist for Visual Arts, the highest recognition for artists in the country, in 2014, Coching had raised the bar of visual art form through his numerous classics and outstanding contribution to the industry.
Referred to as the “Dean of Filipino Illustrators,” the komiks legend had undoubtedly played a significant part in the Philippine comic industry through his novels and illustrations, appearing as one of the most prolific figures in Filipino komiks’ golden age during the 1950s and 1960s era.
And in celebration of his 100th birth anniversary, Ayala Museum will pay tribute through Pagbati sa Hari: A Day of Komiks Pop-ups and Talks on Saturday, January 26, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Ayala Museum will offer free admission to F.V. Coching: Komiks at Kultura Exhibition that will provide visitors a glimpse of the creative process of his works and an opportunity to see a vivid presentation of his commitment to the craft.
Present at the entire event will be komiks artists to share their works and do some comprehensive talks for the guests. There will also be lots of activities, learning, experience, and more to get excited about.
