Angels In America: Millennium Approaches is Coming to Manila This 2019
Tony-Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning play Angels in America: Millennium Approaches is coming to Manila this March 22 to April 7, 2019, in celebration of Atlantis Entertainment Group’s 20th Anniversary Season. This Tony Kushner masterpiece will only unveil the first of its two-part play.
Set in the 1980s in New York City, the play casts critical lead characters: a gay man abandoned by his lover after catching AIDS, and a closeted Mormon lawyer whose marriage with a drug addict woman fails. Such issues of homosexuality, drug addiction, and sexually transmitted disease tackled in the play are still as significant and timely as they were more than two decades ago.
Multi-awarded artistic director Bobby Garcia will direct the production once again, after directing first in the 1990s. When asked why the play will only unveil the first part, Garcia explains that the same suspense also happened back in 1993, as the second part of the play, Perestroika, was still in process that he had to wait eight months before it opened in Broadway. This will also give the whole crew a time to craft Perestroika into perfection.
In the whole Broadway history, Angels in America is now the most Tony Award-nominated play, not to mention that it has also garnered 10 Tony Awards for Best Play since its first premiere 25 years ago. With its revival this year starring Andrew Garfield, this masterpiece also won Tony Awards for Best Revival of a Play—surely isn’t something you’d want to miss out on.
Full cast will be announced soon, and Garcia assures that theater-goers can expect only the best cast for the play.
