Enjoy the beauty of art outdoors at Art in the Park 2017
With people still reeling from the many galleries (and, consequently, art works) featured at Art Fair Philippines, March proved quieter in comparison… only to hide the wave of art coming to you on Sunday, April 2 at the Jaime Velasquez Park in Makati City. Art enthusiasts, get ready for Art in the Park 2017.
Now on its 11th year, Art in the Park has gained steam over its decade of existence. What started as a small fundraiser with 12 participating galleries has now ballooned into an annual event where you can find both budding artists and limited edition pieces of art.
At its core, however, is the desire to improve the country’s culture and arts scene mainly through supporting projects of the Museum Foundation of the Philippines for the National Museum and its network. Any and all artwork purchased at Art in the Park will mean having donated to the betterment of the country’s culture and the arts.

This year, Art in the Park will feature 57 galleries, art collectives, independent art spaces, and student groups who will bring in a variety of works to choose from. Since Art in the Park wants people to view art as something that’s both approachable and affordable, artworks have a price cap of P50,000, with a portion of sales going towards the Museum Foundation of the Philippines.
UNIQUE FINDS. These resin birds can only be bought at Art in the Park 2017. The one on the left was designed by Nemo Aguila, while the one on the right was done by JJ Zamoranos, both from Secret Fresh.
KUMPAS. Prints of Mark Justiniani’s Kumpas will be available at Art in the Park, both as a print and as part of Art in the Park postcards.
Limited edition work for this year’s Art in the Park will be resin versions of the bird in the Art in the Park logo customized by Secret Fresh gallery’s roster of artists. These will be sold at the Museum Foundation of the Philippines booth in addition to prints of Mark Justiniani’s Kumpas, which can also be seen in Art in the Park postcards and other materials.
BAG IN A BOAT. Carzen Esprela’s Bag in a Boat will surely be the center of attention at Art in the Park 2017.
Another piece to watch out for is Bag in a Boat, a fourteen-foot-long installation by Carzen Esprela, a graduate of the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts. Made out of found objects and epoxy, this thought-provoking installation has arms slotted onto the sides where the oars should be along with a headless figure at the stern.
Visitors of Art in the Park won’t go hungry or feel like being in an art gallery with an array of food and drinks as well as music from jazz trio and blues band Brat Pack keeping them company.
