Supporting the High Ability Kid: Workshop for parents and educators
This October 15 (Saturday), join 79 light bulbs and Fully Booked on a 2-session workshop that will take both parents and educators towards understanding the pathways of high ability children at Fully Booked, High Street, BGC.
Educator and Director of Gifted Education Programme and The Centre for Scholastic Excellence, Hwa Chong Institution, Singapore Ms. Clarinda Choh will share her knowledge gained from over 16 years of experience as an educator handling gifted and high-ability kids in and out of the classroom in Singapore, a nation known for excellence. Parents and educators could learn a new thing or two from this down-to-earth and engaging speaker on how to better support their children.
Morning Session with Parents:
Speaker will give a snapshot of the Singapore education and experiences with parents, share how high ability / gifted children are identified and assessed, discuss their pathways and co-relationship with parents, and how parents can be empowered to support their child. Q&A’s highly encouraged!
Afternoon Session with Educators:
Speaker will provide an overall view of theories and practices being done in Singapore schools, focusing on these three areas–CONCEPTIONS OF GIFTEDNESS including identification for programming and programming models, COGNITIVE AND AFFECTIVE TRAITS OF THE GIFTED including myths, truths, and twice exceptionality, and EDUCATIONAL PROVISIONS covering curriculum differentiation and acceleration (when to use what), and in-house programming possibilities. Non-educators are also welcome.
