  • DICT aims to have 250,000 Wi-Fi sites by 2022 in PH
  • You won’t have to use your mobile data soon when connecting to the internet, as the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) recently just announced that 250,000 Wi-Fi sites nationwide will be put up by 2022.

At present, DICT wants to erect 7,000 WiFi sites in the country. This project aims to help students who are in need of internet connectivity for their academic purposes. Public schools and universities stand to gain the most from this, making it easier for students to access their courses.

It was back in 2015 when a proposal was made for Quezon City to be filled with internet sites, with other cities soon following suit. Just last year, President Duterte signed Republic Act No. 10929 or the Free Internet Access in Public Places Act. Under this act, local and national government offices, public institutions, universities, and colleges will become virtual WiFi hotspots.

As of today, the stretch of EDSA has become a WiFi hotspot.
