Written by William Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a comedy that focuses on the events that surround the wedding of the Duke of Athens Theseus to former Amazonian Queen Hippolyta.

The tale includes the adventures of two pairs of lovers, a group of amateur actors, and a group of mischievous fairies that live in the forest where the majority of the play is set.

The two-act ballet was first performed by the New York City Ballet and even opened the first season of The New York City Ballet in 1964. It is one of the many adaptations of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
