Austrian Embassy Manila Presents The Barber of Seville This May 25
In celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Vienna State Opera in Austria, the Austrian Embassy Manila, in partnership with the Manila House Private Club, Inc., presents The Barber of Seville (via live stream) this Saturday, May 25 at Manila House in Taguig.
A timeless opera by Gioachino Rossini, The Barber of Seville (Il Barbiere de Siviglia) tells the story of young Count Almaviva, who is courting Rosina. Rosina’s uncle, Dr. Bartolo, however, purposes to marry her himself so he tries to keep Almaviva away from Rosina and his house.
But with promises of rich awards, Almaviva secures Figaro’s – the witty local barbers – help, and in varying disguises finally wins her heart and marries her, against all of Bartolo’s resistance.
Vienna State Opera formally opened on 25 May 1869 with Mozart’s Don Juan. The opera house has remained at the focus of interest ever since. It has been an internationally important institution for a century and a half, and the concerns of the Vienna opera have always been matters of public interest to a degree unmatched by any other city worldwide.
Entrance is FREE for all Manila House members and Embassy and European cultural institute staff (upon presentation of ID). For the guests, the admission fee is Php 500.
Due to the limited number of seats, reservation is strongly advised. Please RSVP with Manila House at 02-958-5007.
