  • Take a look at how music changes and inspires the lives of the youth as Ayala Museum presents Guitar Nights: Cuerdas ng Pag-asa on Friday, May 24, 2018 at 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm.

The event will feature the members of the Kabataang Gitarista (KG) and the Sparrow Music Guitar Ensemble.

The Kabataang Gitarista is a group comprising of talented high school students – currently at around 40 members – from Manila, Pasay and Parañaque who are trained to play classical guitar for free by the guitar pedagogue Maestro Jose Valdez and his assistant Daniel Lopez through the help of sponsors, according to the statement of Ayala Museum.

Additionally, the Kabataang Gitarista is divided into two performing groups which are the KG Quartet and the Core Group. KG Quartet is composed of mostly alumni, and the Core Group is composed of junior and senior high school students.

The event, Guitar Nights: Cuerdas ng Pag-asa will feature the Core Group whose guitarists members have been with the group for almost two to four years.

Meanwhile, the Sparrow Music Guitar Ensemble, another youth guitar group, will also be featured in the event.

The Sparrow Music Guitar Ensemble is a guitar group comprising of children and youth who are living in Payatas, Quezon City. Surrounded by violence, crimes, vices, etc., the members of this group use guitars as their instruments in giving hope to each other.

According to Ayala Museum, the “musical instrument becomes the children’s outlet, it changes their attitudes and ways, and it opens their eyes to see the bigger world outside.”

Also, their parents stated that since their children started playing the guitar seriously, they improved in their academic perfomances.

Ferdinand Medina directs Sparrow Music Guitar Ensemble’s holistic development with guitar teachers Fred Saclot and Zaren Malitig.
