The 1920s weren’t good times for people who loved to drink and be merry. They were trying times, what with the 18th Amendment to the United States Constitution, banning the manufacture, transportation, and sale of intoxicating liquor.
We say trying because the U.S. federal and local governments had trouble actually enforcing the law and because people were generally up in arms against it.
