  • Filipino audience of the hit stage play The Sound of Music will be treated for a Manila run to be held at The Theater at Solaire which will open on September 27.

The Sound of Music was first played on Broadway in 1959. It follows the story of Maria, a governess who is into music, who made a difference in the life of the Von Trapp family. It was set in Austria in the beginning of the World War II. It popularized the hit songs “Do-Re-Mi” and “My Favorite Things.”

The play was also turned into an award-winning movie with Julie Andrews as Maria. The Sound of Music Manila run also opened its auditions for Filipino children to be included in the play. It will feature 18 children.

James Cundall, chief executive officer of Lunchbox Theatrical Productions and the producer for the upcoming stage play, said that giving opportunities for local children to star in an international production is a “chance of a lifetime.”

“You never know where an opportunity such as this could take you!” he told, as reported by ABS-CBN News.

The Sound of Music is produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Company and David Ian Productions. It will also be by Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Company and David Ian Productions in Manila.
