  • The Japan Foundation Asia Center is excited to bring Ishinomaki Laboratory to the Philippines to work with creative individuals reshaping the landscape of Metro Manila. Recently featured in Monocle and Wallpaper*, Ishinomaki Lab began as a workshop for the local community in a coastal area of Ishinomaki, Miyagi, which was devastated by the tsunami triggered by the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011.

Keeping with its social mission, Ishinomaki Laboratory holds DIY furniture-making workshops in Japan and around the world, with the goal of giving everyday people the tools to change their surroundings–and in turn their communities–through the idea of DIY. With our partners from the creative community in Manila, Ishinomaki Lab will be conducting a workshop at SoFA Design Institute from March 21 to 22.

Ishinomaki Lab’s founder, Keiji Ashizawa, will hold a design talk with SoFA Design Institute on March 21 at 6pm; he is also one of the invited speakers for “CommonGround: Making Sense of Collaboration,” co-hosted by Ashoka Philippines and the Japan Foundation, Manila, on March 22.

If you’d like to attend the talk at SoFA, please RSVP to Ms. Ellice Bucog at marketing@sofa.edu.ph or call +63 917 595-9428.  It is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. SoFA is located at: Enzon Building, 399 Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue, Makati City.
