    Two worlds come together as an award-winning bilingual writer, Yoko Tawada talks in a unique literary event in Manila next month. Hosted by The Japan Foundation Manila and Goethe-Institut Philippinen with De La Salle University, “Writing in Two Worlds: An Afternoon with Yoko Tawada” is this July 12, 2018, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at The Verdure 4/F Multipurpose Room Henry Sy Sr. Hall, De La Salle University, 2401 Taft Avenue, Manila.

    Born in Tokyo in 1960, Yoko Tawada obtained her doctorate in German literature from Zurich University. She has published several novels, poems, plays and essays such as The Bridegroom Was a Dog, Memoirs of a Polar Bear, and The Naked Eye.

    Tawada has received numerous literary awards including the Akutagawa Prize, Kleist Prize, the Tanizaki Prize, and the Goethe Medal.

    During the event, Writing in Two Worlds, Tawada will share how she became a writer, her connection to Japan and Germany, as well as talk about the advantages and disadvantages of writing in two languages. She will also read excerpts from her novel The Emissary.
