  • Elmer Borlongan or Emong, as many art enthusiasts call him, is a renowned Filipino contemporary artist who is best known for his social realist paintings which draw attention to the common people, especially those in the lower class of the society. His paintings inspire discourse on the harsh realities of living in the present society as an ordinary Filipino.

    If you want to understand more deeply the message that he is trying to impart, then grab the opportunity to Meet Emong at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila on February 10, Saturday.

    Emong will hold an artist talk, wherein he will personally discuss the inspiration behind his ongoing exhibition at the Met, “Elmer Borlongan: An Extraordinary Eye for the Ordinary.”

    Not only will he help you understand what goes on in his mind as an artist. He might also help you see and understand the truth of the society that he is depicting in his artworks. Emong will also share insights on his 25-year artistic practice, which is especially valuable for artists and aspiring artists.
