  • Immerse yourself to a fun day of culture, literature, food, and books at this year’s Día del Libro or International Book Day happening on April 27, 2019, at the Ayala Triangle Gardens.

Organized by the Embassy of Spain’s cultural arm, Instituto Cervantes de Manila will once again bring us a day of books, literature, and activities that will surely be fun for all ages! Here’s what to expect at this year’s Dia del Libro:

Books, books and lots of books!

Just like every year, Dia del Libro promises to bring top bookstores and publishing houses to the event offering guests thousands of books to choose from.  Some of the authors will also be there to sign your books!

There will also be a rewriting of Don Quijote, to commemorate the Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes. About 500 participants are expected to hand-write his novel, Don Quijote de la Mancha. Once the hand-written book is finished, it will be deposited to the Library of Instituto Cervantes.

    Roses

Since it is a Spanish tradition that every book entitles the customer one FREE rose, Dia del Libro will giveaway roses for every purchase! Plus, all those who will be participating in the Poetry Recital will also receive roses so expect the event to be full of roses around!

    Poetry Recital

There will also be a poetry reading from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. featuring our national hero, Dr. José Rizal’s “Mi último adiós.” 70 participants are expected to recite a line on the poem and each recitation will be recorded, edited and will be shown on the website and social media pages of Instituto Cervantes Manila.

For interested participants, you may register on the venue itself starting 9:30 am. All participants will also get a rose afterward and one might get a chance to win a Spanish course!

     Arts and Games

First introduced in 2006 by Instituto Cervantes in Manila, Dia del Libro follows through the tradition of Barcelona Spain where every St. George’s Day (April 23), everyone exchanges roses and books. The day also honors two of our greatest writers—Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare and at the same time, we celebrate the World Book Day on April 23.

Catch Dia del Libro 2019, this April 27, 2019, at Ayala Triangle Gardens. Entrance is absolutely FREE! For more information about Dia del Libro, you may contact Instituto Cervantes de Manila at (02) 526 1482 or visit their Facebook page at InstitutoCervantesManila for more updates.
