Level up your playlist with CCP’s Winds and Jazz Festival
As far as music goes, there are but a few popular genres in the Philippines: rock, pop, RnB, and most recently, EDM. However, that doesn’t mean we have to be limited by these options, not when the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) has the Winds and Jazz Festival coming this July.
CCP PRESENTS WINDS AND JAZZ International Band Festival, a celebration of symphonic bands, jazz groups, and wind orchestras, happening from July 26 – 31 at the CCP complex.
Winds and Jazz: The CCP International Band Festival is a 6-day celebration of some of best symphonic bands, jazz bands, and wind orchestras both here and abroad. The festival brings together the vibrant sounds and harmonies of symphonic bands, the sophisticated rhythms of jazz, and the soothing tones of wind orchestras in an event that will surely cater to a variety of listeners and enthusiasts.
Winds and Jazz consists of main evening concerts, pocket and sunset concerts, as well as masterclasses, workshops, and lecture-demos conducted by foreign artists. Highlights of the festival include the grand entrance and opening sunset concert on July 26, 4 p.m. at Harbour Square and closing concerts at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on July 31.

For those looking to cap off their night, Silangan Hall (located at the 4th floor of the CCP Main Building) will be turned into a lounge where jazz bands will be performing well into the night. Apart from performances and workshops, there will also be pre-shows, trade shows, band clinics, and instrument repair sessions.
“This is the 6th time we are holding this kind of event. It started in 2010 with the 1st National Orchestra Festival, followed by several jazz festivals and orchestra and band festivals from 2011 to 2015,” said festival director Herminigildo Ranera in a press conference held earlier today, July 14 at the CCP Main Lobby.
“This year, we are bringing in 8 provincial bands, 5 city bands, 4 school bands, and at least 20 jazz groups together with international and local performing artists to bring you the Winds and Jazz Festival,” he added.
“The main idea behind this festival is to give our local musicians a chance to be heard. We would also like to give our community a chance to appreciate these genres (jazz, symphonic bands, and wind orchestras) and have a venue to promote these kinds of music,” said CCP President Raul M. Sunico, Ph.D.
Apart from the provincial bands, school symphonic bands, and the jazz groups, Winds and Jazz will also have foreign and local artists such as Singaporean band conductor Brandon Tan and the Bossa Nova Queen Sitti Navarro.
