One of the best things about Calle Real is being able to get shots like this, though we hope yours will be much better.

Located along JM Basa, Calle Real is known as Iloilo City’s heritage street. It’s home to multiple Commonwealth and Spanish-era buildings, with the area serving as the city’s shopping and entertainment district as far back as the Spanish era. These buildings were once home to Iloilo’s elites, most of whom lived on the second floor of these buildings.

The ground floor of these heritage buildings have housed shops since the time of the Spaniards, and they still serve the same purpose today. Calle Real stretches from Plaza Libertad (previously known as Plaza Alfonso XII) up to Plazoleta Gay, and is still considered as the city’s center for commerce and trade.

THE INTERNATIONAL HOTEL. It’s no longer a hotel, but it is still one of the more widely-photographed buildings along Calle Real.

Two of the buildings here have been photographed countless times: the International Hotel, also known as the Eusebio Villanueva Building, and Javellana Building. The two-story Javellana Building houses Sarabia Optical, Pawnshop, and Jewelry while the International Hotel has several establishments on its first floor.

Another building has garnered attention among those who like classic architecture: the S Villanueva Building. It’s a Commonwealth-era Art Deco building that houses RCBC’s Iloilo City branch.

Details:

Address: J.M.
