The Department of Tourism<\/strong> (DOT)<\/strong> announced last week the approval to reopen museums in NCR Plus, <\/strong>following the decision of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases<\/strong> (IATF-EID)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

According to the IATF-EID, historical sites and museums are only allowed to accommodate 20 percent of the venue\u2019s capacity. They are also subject to the health and safety restrictions of the DOT and other restrictions of the relevant local government unit.<\/p>\n

The DOT also clarified that guided tours remain prohibited.<\/p>\n

“Our historical sites and museums in the NCR Plus Area may welcome visitors following the easing of quarantine restrictions. This is part of our efforts to restart tourism and leisure activities in a safe and steady manner, and to help bring back employment,\u201d said Tourism Secretary<\/strong> Bernadette Romulo-Puyat<\/b>.<\/p>\n

The IATF approval covers historical sites and museums in the NCR Plus, which covers Metro Manila and the neighboring provinces of Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, and Laguna<\/strong>, and which is currently under the General Community Quarantine<\/strong> (GCQ)<\/strong> with restrictions.<\/p>\n

“Visitors are still urged to follow the minimum health and safety standards set for historical sites and museums to prevent a possible COVID-19 outbreak,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Museums and historical sites in other areas under GCQ and Modified GCQ are already allowed to operate.<\/p>\n

“Revisiting our past brings us closer together as a people and draws us closer to a future free of the perils and uncertainty brought about by the pandemic,\u201d she ended.<\/p>\n

Last month, the government\u2019s COVID-19 task force allowed the operation of outdoor tourist attractions, also on a limited capacity.<\/p>\n
