{"id":14800,"date":"2021-03-13T11:00:13","date_gmt":"2021-03-13T03:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/travel\/?p=14800"},"modified":"2022-05-03T12:28:46","modified_gmt":"2022-05-03T04:28:46","slug":"palawan-travel-puerto-princesa-is-now-open-while-coron-pushes-safe-and-sustainable-tourism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/travel\/2021\/03\/13\/palawan-travel-puerto-princesa-is-now-open-while-coron-pushes-safe-and-sustainable-tourism\/","title":{"rendered":"Puerto Princesa Reopens To Tourists, Coron Pushes Sustainable Tourism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Puerto Princesa<\/strong> has started accepting local\u00a0tourists\u00a0this month.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>After a year of hiatus\u00a0due to the pandemic, the\u00a0local executives has decided to open\u00a0Puerto Princesa&#8217;s gates to\u00a0<b>domestic tourists<\/b>.\u00a0Though the island was initially opened last December 8, it was meant for Palawe\u00f1os alone.<\/p>\n<p>This move by the local government both aims to help tourism workers get back on their feet\u00a0and permit tourists\u00a0to\u00a0appreciate\u00a0the island once again.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-p1\">\u201cWe are keen to discover and develop other tourism products to encourage visitors to stay longer or to entice repeat visits. In which, minimum health and safety standards\u00a0are followed strictly.<\/p>\n<p>RT-PCR test is required before the travel and it\u00a0should have 48 hours validity.\u00a0 The (negative) result must come\u00a0from one of the Department of Health&#8217;s (DOH) accredited testing facilities and sent to the City\u2019s Incident Management Team (IMT).<\/p>\n<p>In addition to testing, only confirmed booking from\u00a0a DOT-accredited establishment is allowed. And in order to minimize\u00a0and control the spread of the virus, tourists are required to\u00a0register on\u00a0<span class=\"gmail-s1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/staysafe.ph\/\">StaySafe.ph<\/a>\u00a0for contact tracing.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile,\u00a0Puyat assured tourism workers\u00a0that they will be\u00a0included in the\u00a0vaccination priority list.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-p1\">Last February, DOT Region 4-B has accredited 73 tourism establishments and service providers in Puerto Princesa City, the majority of which are tour guides.<\/p>\n<h3>Coron Pushes\u00a0<b>Sustainable Tourism<\/b><\/h3>\n<p class=\"gmail-p1\">The\u00a0tourism department expresses support\u00a0for\u00a0<strong>Coron\u2019s sustainable tourism<\/strong>, hoping it will help attract more tourists.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-p1\">\u201cGiving our recovery plans for Coron a major boost is the <strong>S<\/strong><b>ustainable Tourism Development Project<\/b>\u00a0or\u00a0<b>STDP<\/b>, which will be launched this year and will run throughout 2026,\u201d Sec. Puyat said, with the hopes that the initiative and leadership of Mayor Mario Reyes Jr., local industry captains, and community beacons will provide the impetus for this high-impact project.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"gmail-p1\"><b>STDP<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-p1\">The STDP is an initiative under DOT&#8217;s<b>\u00a0Transforming Communities Towards Resilient, Inclusive, and Sustainable Tourism<\/b>\u00a0(TouRIST) program.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-p1\">This\u00a0program,\u00a0which is a partnership between the provincial government of Palawan, the municipalities of Coron and El Nido, and the Asian Development Bank\u00a0(ADB), aims to\u00a0make\u00a0these two municipalities&#8217; tourism development\u00a0inclusive and sustainable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-p1\">This initiative is\u00a0a five-year plan that will begin in this year&#8217;s third quarter\u00a0that targets to improve and develop the\u00a0urban infrastructure sector, ecosystems, and enterprise area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-p2\">\u201cThe STDP will help build the capacity of local stakeholders to protect and conserve Coron\u2019s natural beauty and biodiversity and ensure that tourism benefits the local communities,\u201d Puyat added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-p1\">The\u00a0DOT has also conducted rigid inspections and regularly monitors its accredited accommodation establishments (AEs) to ensure that minimum health and safety protocols are enforced properly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-p1\">Coron is a top destination for both international and local travelers.
