Department of Tourism\u00a0(DOT) is now giving power over health and safety protocol requirements to local government units.<\/p>\n

Tourism Secretary\u00a0Bernadette\u00a0Romulo-Puyat\u00a0<\/strong>gave the go-signal to the local government to\u00a0handle their\u00a0health and safety\u00a0protocols\u00a0in their respective area, especially when it comes to travel and tourism.\u00a0 This will ease and allow local government to seek what’s best and fits for them. It\u00a0empowers them to manage the ins and outs of their business, while they have the full support of DOT.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to open up tourism but with health and safety protocols in place, with close cooperation with our mayors, our stakeholders, and our congressmen (as) the Department of Tourism cannot do this alone,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

RT-PCR Price Cap <\/b><\/p>\n

To boost safety tourism,\u00a0a COVID\u00a0test is required for\u00a0traveling. However, many\u00a0tourists\u00a0find this quite expensive on top of their flights, hotels, and other expenses\u00a0all throughout their travel.\u00a0 That’s why\u00a0the DOT made a big moved when they price cap the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

In\u00a0December 2020, during the signing of the memorandum agreement between DOT and PCMC, Tourism Secretary\u00a0Bernadette Romulo-Puyat\u00a0explained that with the help of the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB)\u00a0they collected Php 8.7 million\u00a0to finance the subsidy program.<\/p>\n

Currently,\u00a0the\u00a0Philippine Children\u2019s Medical Center in Quezon City offers\u00a0\u00a0RT-PCR Php 750, while the\u00a0Philippine General Hospital (PGH)\u00a0has a price reduction of RT-PCR test from Php900 to Php500 \u201cso that people will be able to travel\u201d especially Filipinos who always travel as a family.<\/p>\n
