One spot that you should never miss out on when visiting the spectacular island of Sabtang is the <\/span>Savidug Village<\/b>. Just like Chavayan Village, it has a rich history featuring the early life of the Ivatans.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Savidug Village’s long list of history started with the\u00a0<\/span>locals moving from one place to another due to food shortages, until they found out about the <\/span>Ditadit <\/span><\/i>plant, which are edible green vines.<\/span><\/p>\n

There were even practices where a dying person are placed over <\/span>Ditadit<\/span><\/i>, and the locals would eat the plant after they removed the dead. The spot where they practiced such was locally known as <\/span>Badichid, <\/span><\/i>which was eventually named <\/span>Savidug<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Savidug <\/span><\/i>is the place where the people finally settled and is now known as the peaceful village in Sabtang Island. It is located along the hills, making it suitable for root crops and pasture.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"There is a tight-knit community in Savidug Village\u2014we even encountered Ivatans doing each other’s haircut!\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Another view that\u2019s worth noting is the <\/span>Savidug Idiang, <\/span><\/i>which are natural rock formations located on the hills. <\/span>Savidug Idiang <\/span><\/i>is also known as the fortresses wherein the early Ivatans hid when they were attacked during the prehistoric times.<\/span><\/p>\n

Further,\u00a0St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel<\/strong>\u00a0resides in Savidug Village. At first glance, it\u00a0will remind you of Greece with its white and blue colors, but the interior still retains its Ivatan atmosphere.<\/p>\n

How to get here<\/strong><\/p>\n
