It was pioneered by Nairakira, the 28<sup>th<\/sup> head of the influential Shimadzu clan.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Nariakira started to modernize Japan in fear of Western colonization; thus he created the Shuseikan Project. In making Satsuma Kiriko, intrinsic cuts and colors are made into the different layers of glass.
