  • The Philippines is home to over 7,000 islands that make it an archipelago of great size in the Pacific. Its coastlines boast of pearly-white beaches as the country is surrounded by bodies of water, which adds to its charm as a tourist destination. If you are looking for a place to spend a memorable weekend with white sand in mind, Puerto Galera is one of the places to be.

    Said to have one of the best diving spots in the world, Puerto Galera is also known for a lot of  marine sports to try aside from diving. For a romantic holiday, one can watch the sunset together with a loved one as the horizon is dotted with boats and ships of different sizes. There are plenty of activities and events that one can go to when in Puerto Galera.

    It has been a dock for trade ships coming from China and other countries from around the 10th century. During the Spanish colonial period, the place has prospered as a port of for galleon trade. Also, at that time, it was established as the capital of Mindoro in 1574.

    Due to its extensive biodiversity and invaluable ecosystems, there was a concern raised about the preservation of the waters of Puerto Galera and it was declared a Biosphere Reserve of UNESCO as an effort. However, because of the boom in tourism the place has received throughout the years, pollution has become a major problem.
