{"id":5284,"date":"2017-09-17T08:59:49","date_gmt":"2017-09-17T00:59:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/primer.com.ph\/tips-guides\/?p=5284"},"modified":"2021-07-13T09:36:31","modified_gmt":"2021-07-13T01:36:31","slug":"what-to-expect-at-the-1st-budayaw-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/tips-guides\/2017\/09\/17\/what-to-expect-at-the-1st-budayaw-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"What to Expect at the 1st Budayaw Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\">A grand festivity celebrating the rich creative diversity of four ASEAN nations has been set afloat\u2014the first <strong>BUDAYAW Festival,<\/strong> dubbed as <strong>2017 BIMP-EAGA (Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines &#8211; East ASEAN Growth Area) Festival on Culture and Arts,<\/strong> will happen on September 20 to 24 in General Santos City, Mindanao.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5286\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/tips-guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/09\/17991254_1771234249566128_1263342166894754264_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\"><em>&#8220;Budayaw&#8221; was coined from the combination of\u00a0<\/em><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">Budaya<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\"><em>, a Malay Indonesian word for &#8216;cultural,&#8217; and\u00a0<\/em><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">Dayaw,<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\"><em> a Filipino word for &#8216;celebration.&#8217; \/IMAGE Budayaw Festival Facebook page<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">This multidimensional and multidisciplinary festival of arts and culture will be kicked off with the theme &#8220;Taking Pride in the Creative Diversity of the BIMP-EAGA Region,&#8221; throwing a spotlight on the harmony and diversity of creative expressions of contemporary artists and indigenous cultural masters that come from the four countries that include the Philippines. Budayaw Festival, with a lot of\u00a0exciting and inspiring activities in store, will officially commence with an opening ceremony at the Greenleaf Hotel in General Santos City on September 20.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">EXHIBITIONS. Artists from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines are coming together to showcase their works in different parts of General Santos City. Among the many exhibits to look forward to are\u00a0<em>Under One Sky: Visual Arts Exhibition<\/em>\u00a0in Veranza<em>, <\/em>an outdoor\u00a0art installation which will be unveiled during the opening ceremony;\u00a0<em>Tapestry of Dreams: Ikat Pavilion Showcase<\/em> in SM\u00a0City GenSan Trade Hall 1, wherein Ikat weavers will demonstrate their mastery of this unique weaving technique;\u00a0<em>Muslims in the Philippines Culture and History<\/em> in SM City GenSan Atrium.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">ART TALKS AND INTELLECTUAL DISCUSSIONS. Budayaw Festival is indeed loaded with a lot of events that can give insights into the history, culture, and society of the BIMP-EAGA region. For one, the\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><em>BIMP-EAGA\u00a0Colloquium on Cultures and History<\/em>, a grand conference of scholars, researchers, policy makers and cultural workers,\u00a0<\/span>will be held for four days at the Audio Visual Room of the Graduate School of the Mindanao State University.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">PERFORMANCES. The festival also has a grand staging of cultural performers and choral singers from the four countries.
