Make sure everyone in the house knows what to do during an earthquake.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Know\/have an evacuation plan once an earthquake hits, including where to go, what to do, and what to bring in a <strong>go-bag<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Secure any objects within your home or office that might fall during an earthquake<\/li>\n<li>Prepare firefighting equipment\n<ul>\n<li>Fires are the second most damaging part of an earthquake<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Practice DROP, COVER, and HOLD ON\n<ul>\n<li>DROP to your hands and knees<\/li>\n<li>Take COVER under a sturdy desk\/table<\/li>\n<li>HOLD ON to something until the shaking stops<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Read on information about earthquake safety, hazards, and preparedness from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phivolcs.dost.gov.ph\/index.php\/earthquake\/earthquake-preparedness\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PHIVOLCS<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><strong>During an earthquake<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4458\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/tips-guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/04\/shake_01_800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/tips-guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/04\/shake_01_800x600.jpg 600w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/tips-guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/04\/shake_01_800x600-290x218.jpg 290w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/tips-guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/04\/shake_01_800x600-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\"><em>REMEMBER THESE DURING A QUAKE and you&#8217;ll survive.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you\u2019re indoors:\n<ul>\n<li>Move away from windows, glass, and heavy objects.<\/li>\n<li>DROP, COVER, and HOLD ON.<\/li>\n<li>Wait until the shaking stops before getting out.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>If you\u2019re outdoors:\n<ul>\n<li>Head for an open space (park, parking lot, open field) and stay away from any buildings, street lamps, trees, or walls).<\/li>\n<li>Get on your hands and knees and stay low to the ground<\/li>\n<li>If you\u2019re in a car, pull over to a clear area and stay in your car.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><strong>After an earthquake<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you were indoors during the quake, grab your go bag and get out of the building. Use the stairs, NEVER THE ELEVATOR.<\/li>\n<li>Once out, stay away from damaged buildings.<\/li>\n<li>If an aftershock hits, DROP, COVER, and HOLD ON.<\/li>\n<li>Do not go back inside your house\/building unless the authorities tell you it\u2019s safe to do so.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It\u2019s not much to remember, but if you remember these steps, you\u2019ll be a lot safer when an earthquake hits. To ensure you\u2019ll survive after being hit, make sure you prepare your go-bag. It\u2019s a bag that has things essential to survival after a natural disaster.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what you need to put inside it:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Water (at least 1.5 liters)<\/li>\n<li>Ready-to-eat meals (canned food, instant noodles, biscuits, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Masks<\/li>\n<li>Flashlight and extra batteries<\/li>\n<li>Clothing (make sure it\u2019s light and compact)<\/li>\n<li>First aid kit<\/li>\n<li>A two-way radio for communication and a portable radio for listening in on the news<\/li>\n<li>Powerbank (to charge your mobile device)<\/li>\n<li>Whistle<\/li>\n<li>Others:\n<ul>\n<li>Copies of important documents<\/li>\n<li>Money<\/li>\n<li>Prescriptions (if you or anyone else in your family is on them)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Make sure these go into a sturdy bag that you can carry on your back.
