This extends to controlled-access highways, known as expressways in the Philippines.<\/p>\n<p>A modern convenience, however, is eliminating a portion of these long lines for those people who use expressways on a daily basis. It\u2019s known by a couple of names (Easytrip, EasyDrive, eTap, RFID, E-Pass) yet the government refers to it as Electronic Toll Collection or ETC.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is an ETC?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4205\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/tips-guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/03\/post8162.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/tips-guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/03\/post8162.jpg 600w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/tips-guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/03\/post8162-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>ETC LANES. Might as well call them express lanes, because using ETCs will make your trip that much faster. It\u2019s a way of collecting toll fees for expressways electronically. It allows the driver to use the expressway without taking out cash, eliminating the need to stop and hand over the toll fee to a person whenever you enter any of these expressways or the Metro Manila Skyway:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>North Luzon Expressway (NLEX)<\/li>\n<li>South Luzon Expressway (SLEX)<\/li>\n<li>Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX)<\/li>\n<li>Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>ETCs are composed of two parts: the sensor on top of the special gate and the Electronic Toll Collection On-Board Units. Only vehicles with these devices can go through specially marked ETC tollgates.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are the different ETC On-Board Units?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are currently three types of ETCs in the country: an ETC tag, tap-and-go cards, and radio-frequency identification (RFID).<\/p>\n<p><em>ETC Tags<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"463\" height=\"310\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4202\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/tips-guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/03\/EC-Tag.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/tips-guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/03\/EC-Tag.jpg 463w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/tips-guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/03\/EC-Tag-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 463px) 100vw, 463px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>ETC tags are devices attached to the inner portion of your windshield that can be read by a sensor on an ETC lane. These tags allow you to go through the ETC lane, making your trip smoother\u2026 that is, if you remember to top up your account.<\/p>\n<p>Today, there\u2019s only one tag-type ETC in use: the Easytrip electronic tag, which can be used at NLEX and SCTEX. The difference: they\u2019re more efficient and much smaller in size. Instead of taking up the same area as your LTO sticker, it occupies the same size as a \u00bc strip of your credit card. <em>Note: the chip is actually smaller, but you need at least that much space to mount it so it doesn\u2019t fall off.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Two RFID systems are currently in place: CAVITEX\u2019s EasyDrive, powered by Easytrip, and SLEX\u2019s Autosweep RFID.
