It\u2019s classified as a first-class town, and, like many towns in the Philippines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">And, like any other town in the Philippines, it has its own festival. They call it the Candle Festival, celebrated annually on February 2. It is normally set forty days after Mary gave birth to Jesus Christ. It is done to show the people of Candelaria\u2019s devotion to the <em>Nuestra Se\u00f1ora de Candelaria<\/em>, or the Candlemas Virgin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2229\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/tips-guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/01\/candle-2.jpg\" alt=\"candle-2\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><em>The Candelmas Virgin with a Candle.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">The town\u2019s celebration for the Candlemas Virgin began in 2005, when then parish priest Msgr. Carlos Pedro A. Herrera started his devotion to the <em>Nuestra Se\u00f1ora de Candelaria. <\/em>While the town itself celebrated a festival in honor of San Pedro Bautista every February 5, the parish priest decided to honour the Virgin with a Candle Festival held on February 2.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Highlights of the first Candle Festival included a vibrant street dancing competition and the candle float parade from the 25 barangays of Candelaria, which remains to this day. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ArwXL9op354\">Click here<\/a> to watch a performance from the 2013 Candle Festival.
