Kyotako Takoyaki in Pasay: Osaka-style Takoyaki
One of the most popular Japanese snacks is takoyaki, a flour-based ball with minced vegetables and octopus. People have been raving about this snack for years, making it to top of their list as an afternoon or mid-morning snack. Locally, there are numerous takoyaki shops in Metro Manila but all have a variety of taste, quality, and experience that doesn’t quite match what people expect from an authentic takoyaki.
And then there’s Kyotako Takoyaki.

Kyotako Takoyaki opened at the University of Sto. Tomas in 2015. They provide authentic Kansai-style takoyaki to their customers. The Kansai region is said to be the home of the humble takoyaki. It’s also where the owner himself learned how to make authentic takoyaki.
Spicy Garlic (Php 105 for 3 pieces and Php 180 for 6 pieces)
Kyotako uses anywhere between 6 and 8 kinds of flour for their takoyaki. This keeps the quality the same even after leaving it out for five minutes. The ingredients, such as the powder, sauces, and flour, are all imported from Japan, but they use local octopus and vegetables for their filling.
Mentaiko (Php 100 for 3 pieces and Php 170 for 6 pieces)
One of their bestsellers is the Spicy Garlic (Php 105 for 3 pieces and Php 180 for 6 pieces). It is an Osaka-style takoyaki with a blend of spicy garlic sauce that has the right amount of heat and creaminess. If you’re looking for something simple yet flavorful, the Mentaiko (Php 100 for 3 pieces and Php 170 for 6 pieces) is the way to go. It’s topped with mentaiko, mayonnaise, and nori.
Each bite easily melts in your mouth followed a creamy and chewy texture from the filling. There are many people even such as tourists who frequently order their signatures. Visit them at the SM Mall of Asia and try their takoyaki!
