The\u00a0Japan\u00a0Foundation\u00a0Asia Center is excited to bring\u00a0Ishinomaki Laboratory<\/a>\u00a0to the Philippines to work with creative individuals reshaping the landscape of Metro Manila. Recently featured in\u00a0Monocle and Wallpaper*<\/a>, Ishinomaki Lab began as a workshop for the local community in a coastal area of Ishinomaki, Miyagi, which was devastated by the tsunami triggered by the Great East\u00a0Japan\u00a0Earthquake in March 2011.<\/p>\n Keeping with its social mission, Ishinomaki Laboratory holds DIY furniture-making workshops in\u00a0Japan\u00a0and around the world, with the goal of giving everyday people the tools to change their surroundings\u2013and in turn their communities\u2013through the idea of DIY.\u00a0With our partners from the creative community in Manila, Ishinomaki Lab will be conducting a workshop at SoFA Design Institute from\u00a0March 21 to 22.<\/p>\n Ishinomaki Lab’s founder,\u00a0Keiji Ashizawa<\/a>, will hold a design talk with SoFA Design Institute on\u00a0March 21 at 6pm; he is also one of the invited speakers for \u201cCommonGround: Making Sense of Collaboration,\u201d co-hosted by\u00a0Ashoka Philippines<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0Japan\u00a0Foundation, Manila, on\u00a0March 22.<\/p>\n If you’d like to attend the talk at SoFA, please RSVP to Ms. Ellice Bucog at\u00a0marketing@sofa.edu.ph<\/a>\u00a0or call\u00a0+63 917 595-9428<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0It is free and open to the public, but seating is limited.
