(Photo by Kiko Cabuena)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Performatura 2017 is a performance literature festival celebrating the intersections of the written word and performance. The word <em>Performatura<\/em> is a mash up of the word performance and <em>orature<\/em> or oral literature. Orature is a term coined by Ugandan linguist Pio Zirimu who wanted to raise oral literature to the level of written literature.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"402\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7017\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/event\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2017\/03\/2-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/event\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2017\/03\/2-1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/event\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2017\/03\/2-1-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>CCP Vice President and Artistic Director Chris Millado. (Photo by Kiko Cabuena)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The festival theme is \u201c<em>Sa Loob at Labas ng Bayan Kong Sawi\u201d<\/em> (Within and Without My Sorrowful Country), taken from <em>Florante at Laura<\/em>, the masterpiece of Francisco \u201cBalagtas\u201d Baltazar. Balagtas\u2019 spirit likewise animates Performatura as various artists give life to his body of work.<\/p>\n<p>It features poetry readings, cultural performances, film showings, marathon readings, book fair, and interviews with renowned artists and writers from 9am to 9pm. Entrance to the festival is free and open to the public, though everyone is encouraged to donate a book as a price for admission.
