Art has always been seen as a form of expression; however, in recent years it has also taken on another purpose: that of advocacy. Art exhibitions have always been done to promote local artists. Abstract Expression Manila\u2019s (AEM) Unseen: A Mental Health Benefit Exhibit, <\/strong>which runs from August 26 – 29, is doing more than just promoting artists.<\/span><\/p>\n

Unseen is an event that promotes this new way of looking at art. It\u2019s a fundraising activity for those suffering mental illnesses. They\u2019re looking to not only get people to see and appreciate some of the country\u2019s best works of art; they\u2019re also looking to raise awareness about mental illnesses with the help of the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH).<\/span><\/p>\n

Apart from showcasing works of art, they are also inviting spoken word poets and live acoustic bands to perform alongside all paintings and photographs that are available for auction.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mental health issues have long existed in the Philippines. Advocates have long been saying it\u2019s an issue that needs to be addressed, yet it seems that it is only now<\/a> that it has become a priority. With Unseen, AEM seeks to raise that awareness to the next level while giving help to the NCMH.<\/span><\/p>\n
