Best of all, it\u2019s FREE!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">This year\u2019s EIGASAI will feature award-winning film adaptations of some of Japan\u2019s best fiction and non-fiction novels written by their most prolific writers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3517\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/event\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2016\/06\/Masato-HARADA-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Masato HARADA\" width=\"850\" height=\"567\" srcset=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/event\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2016\/06\/Masato-HARADA-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/event\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2016\/06\/Masato-HARADA-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/event\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2016\/06\/Masato-HARADA-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>AWARD-WINNING FILM DIRECTOR Masato Harada will be on hand to talk about two of his films: The Emperor in August and Kakekomi.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Leading the way is a one-time screening of award-winning director Masato Harada\u2019s <em>The Emperor in August <\/em>(2015), a period film based on Hando Kazutoshi\u2019s non-fiction novel \u201cNihon no Ichiban Nagai Hi: Ketteiban.\u201d The film reveals the pain and suffering of the Japanese who put their lives on the line to end the Pacific War and achieve peace. <em>The Emperor in August<\/em> will be shown on July 8 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines \u2013 Little Theater.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Two more of Harada\u2019s films will be shown throughout the festival: <em>Kakekomi <\/em>(2015) and <em>Chronicle of My Mother (2011)<\/em>. Both are film adaptations of the works of one of Japan\u2019s greatest playwrights, Inoue Yasushi.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><em>Kakekomi<\/em> follows a novice doctor and playwright and the unlikely events he gets caught up in while trying to help two women get out of their marriages. <em>Chronicle of My Mother<\/em> is an autobiographical novel by Yasushi that tells the tale of Kosaku and how he reconnects with his now-senile mother.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Harada will grace the initial screening of <em>Kakekomi<\/em> at the Shang Cineplex on July 7, who will hold two <strong>Director\u2019s Talks <\/strong>during his stay. The first Director\u2019s Talk will take place after the screening of <em>The Emperor in August<\/em> at the Cultural Center of the Philippines \u2013 Little Theater. The second will be on July 9 at the Shang Cineplex Cinema two, after the screening of <em>Kakekomi<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">JFM has also partnered with Cinemalaya, the country\u2019s largest independent film festival, to bring you two Japanese independent films by up-and-coming Japanese directors Hiroshi Shoji and Ryutaro Nakagawa: <em>Ken and Kazu <\/em>(2015) and <em>August in Tokyo<\/em> (2014), which will be shown during the Cinemalaya Film Festival.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3516\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/event\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2016\/06\/line-up.jpg\" alt=\"line-up\" width=\"597\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/event\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2016\/06\/line-up.jpg 597w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/event\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2016\/06\/line-up-211x300.jpg 211w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 597px) 100vw, 597px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>THE FULL LINE-UP.
