If you love\u00a0Spanish cinema,\u00a0Instituto Cervantes de Manila\u00a0<\/strong>and the\u00a0Embassy of Spain<\/strong>\u00a0will present\u00a0“Cl\u00e1sicos Contigo”\/”Classics With You,”<\/strong>\u00a0a program of select Spanish film classics that can be streamed for free through the Instituto Cervantes Vimeo channel,\u00a0<\/strong>for the month of July.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Classics With You\u00a0is<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>a commitment to quality Spanish cinema designed for cinephiles around the world that\u00a0<\/span>brings back five great movies\u00a0which today are considered reference works of Spanish cinema.<\/span><\/p>\n

The chosen titles, presented by Spanish actors, directors or screenwriters, belong to the AECID Film Library catalog and will be screened with English subtitles. The five movies will be shown over five weekends of July\u2014one film per weekend, being each title available only for 48 hours.<\/p>\n

The film cycle, whose first leg started last May with four classic titles from legendary filmmakers such as Bu\u00f1uel, Bardem, and Garc\u00eda Berlanga, will continue this July with the second leg of the series, featuring five films from the 1970s until\u00a0<\/i>the end of the 20th\u00a0century.<\/p>\n

The line up of movies is comprised of the following:\u00a0The Spirit of the Beehive<\/i>\u00a0(1973)<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0The South<\/i>\u00a0(1983)<\/strong>, directed by V\u00edctor Erice;\u00a0The Holy Innocents<\/i>\u00a0(1984)<\/strong>, by Mario Camus in;\u00a0La vaquilla\u00a0<\/i>(1985)<\/strong>, by Luis Garc\u00eda Berlanga; and\u00a0The good star<\/strong><\/i>, shot by Ricardo Franco in 1997.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Spirit of the Beehive<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The first film to be streamed is\u00a0<\/span>The Spirit of the Beehive<\/span><\/i>, directed in 1973 by V\u00edctor Erice,\u00a0<\/span>one of the most outstanding and appreciated filmmakers in the history of Spanish cinema.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The premiere of \u201cThe Spirit of the Beehive\u201d, Erice’s debut feature film, was greeted with critical acclaim and awarded with the Golden Shell for Best Film at the San Sebastian Film Festival<\/span>, soon establishing itself as the consummate masterpiece of Spanish cinema.<\/p>\n

Coinciding with this cycle, Instituto Cervantes and the Embassy of Spain in the Philippines are\u00a0set to launch\u00a0the\u00a0Cineclub Pelikula<\/strong>, an online cinema club that offers video-talks around the programmed films.<\/span><\/p>\n

The video-talks, conducted by writer and cultural activist\u00a0Jessica Zafra<\/strong>, will take place\u00a0every Sunday<\/strong>\u00a0via\u00a0the Zoom platform. The first webinar will be devoted to the film\u00a0El esp\u00edritu de la colmena<\/i>\u00a0(<\/span>The Spirit of the Beehive<\/span><\/i>) is scheduled on July 5 at 5 p.m.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The films aforementioned, presented by\u00a0Instituto Cervantes in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain in the Philippines, and the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain,\u00a0will be in Spanish with English subtitles. Admission is free<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
