Updated as of March 13, 2020.\u00a0PPO’s seventh concert for their 37th Concert Season\u00a0has been\u00a0canceled in light of the COVID-19 threat.<\/em><\/strong><\/span>
\nFor the seventh concert<\/strong> in the 37th Concert Season<\/strong> titled “Gold: Classical Music Treasures,” the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO)<\/strong> will be performing with renowned pianist, Dr. Raul Sunico<\/strong> on March 13, 2020<\/strong>\u00a0at the CCP Main Theater, Pasay City<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Dr. Sunico, who\u00a0will be replacing violinist Ryu Goto as the featured soloist for the concert, will be performing Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F Major. The PPO will be performing under the baton of Maestro Yoshikazu Fukumura<\/strong> who invited Sunico to perform at the concert.<\/p>\n

Dr. Raul M. Sunico<\/strong> is a graduate of the University of the Philippines with the degrees of Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, and Master of Statistics. Through a scholarship granted to him by the Young Artists Foundation of the Philippines, he was also able to finish his Master of Music degree at the esteemed Julliard School and Doctor of Philosophy Degree, major in Piano Performance at the New York University.<\/p>\n

He was also conferred a Doctor of Humanities degree by the Far Eastern University.<\/p>\n

Sunico first came to the scene after winning the Manila Symphony Orchestra’s Young Artists’ Auditions. He later won the silver medal in the 1979 Viotti International Piano Competition in Italy and received the Henry Cowell Prize in the 1980 University of Maryland International Competition. Notably, he was also a finalist in Italy’s 1979 Busoni International Piano Competition.<\/p>\n

He would later serve as a judge in competitions around the world including the Isidor Bajic Memorial Piano Competition in Serbia, the Piyabhand Sanitwongse Piano Competition in Bangkok, and the Bergen Philharmonic Competition in New Jersey, among others.<\/p>\n
