Together with The Peninsula Manila, Salcedo Auctions\u00a0<\/b>invites guests to discover a full spectrum of light, color, and harmony at The Well-Appointed Life 2019<\/strong> Philippine Art sale.<\/span><\/p>\n

It’s taking place on<\/span> September 21 to 22<\/b>, 2019 from<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>2 p.m.<\/b> at the <\/span>Rigodon Ballroom<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Inspired by the evolutionary\u2014and sometimes revolutionary\u2014aspects of art history, almost\u00a0300 lots<\/strong>\u00a0of art are up for auction in the Important Philippine Art sale<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n

It\u00a0<\/span>aims to\u00a0examine and celebrate man\u2019s quest for beauty, just as artists and artisans have expressed their inner curiosity with both subject and technique through the ages.<\/span><\/p>\n

Leading the procession of this year\u2019s highlights is <\/span>Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo\u2019s<\/b> La Pintura<\/em>, an oil on canvas painting in a true French Impressionist style.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hidalgo\u2019s work is accompanied by his contemporary, <\/span>Juan Luna y Novicio<\/b>, whose rare 1881 watercolor Venezia<\/em><\/span>\u00a0closely hews to a style known as Costumbrism<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Also included in the lineup is <\/span>La Virgen Mar\u00eda Leyendo un Libro<\/em>,<\/span> a rare work by Luna and Hidalgo\u2019s predecessor, <\/span>Sim\u00f3n Flores y de la Rosa,<\/b>\u00a0who is recognized as the first Filipino artist to have received an international award.<\/span><\/p>\n

National Artist <\/span>Jose Joya<\/b> uses luminous colors to usher into modern times with his 1960 oil on board work, wherein colors are contrasted to dynamic effect and hues are applied in varying opacity to give the work balance.<\/span><\/p>\n

Vicente Manansala<\/b> reins in Joya\u2019s abstractionism with his own style of cubism. A counterpart is <\/span>Ang Kiukok\u2019s<\/b> Seated Figure<\/em>, an arresting subject even in its stationary form, balanced with a solemn palette.<\/span><\/p>\n

A similar muted tone is echoed in the monochromatic hues of <\/span>Juvenal Sanso\u2019s<\/b>\u00a0Typewriter,\u00a0<\/em>a rare example from his figurative period.<\/span><\/p>\n

A remarkable addition to this year\u2019s line-up is Verandah,<\/em>\u00a0which was recently discovered work from <\/span>Roberto Chabet<\/b>\u2019s New York collection. <\/span><\/p>\n

Another artwork worth noting is <\/span>Onib Olmedo<\/b>\u2019s verdant painting of a young man leading a horse on an overcast day.<\/span><\/p>\n

The collection also boasts exemplars from across <\/span>Mauro Malang Santos\u2019<\/b> career from the 1950s to the year 2001. A<\/span> line-up of modern artists culminates in a stunning 2003 acrylic on canvas by National Artist <\/span>BenCab.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Ramon Orlina<\/b> explores the equally enchanting effects of light through his chosen medium of glass, just as <\/span>Solomon Saprid, Eduardo Castrillo,<\/b> and <\/span>Napoleon Abueva<\/b> depict familiar native motifs in metal and marble sculptures.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Opening the line-up of contemporary artists is <\/span>Lao Lianben<\/b> with his 2009 acrylic on canvas Buddhist Television<\/em>. In similar minimalist strain, <\/span>Maria Taniguchi<\/b> highlights the creative and technical process of art in her brick paintings series.<\/span><\/p>\n

Elaine Navas, Rodel Tapaya, Ricky Ambagan,<\/b> and <\/span>Ronson Culibrina<\/b> make use of culturally loaded images to encourage the re-examination of personal and societal experience.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Marina Cruz’s<\/b> highly personal works marry the classical and abstract to capture the many intimate moments that make up The Well-Appointed Life.<\/span><\/p>\n
