Nothing would\u00a0hinder\u00a0MaArte Fair<\/strong>\u00a0in its bid to provide another fun and festive arts and crafts fair this year. Not even Manila\u2019s gloomy weather would put a stop in celebrating Filipinos\u2019 appreciation for local artistry.<\/p>\n

Tagged as the country’s much-awaited annual trunk show, MaArte Fair is now back in the arts scene as it eyes to kick-off the first-ever \u201cMaArte oPEN House<\/strong>,\u201d a play on its collaboration with\u00a0The Peninsula Manila<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Aside from providing an exciting venue for local artisans to showcase their craft, this year\u2019s celebration has reinvented itself to give several premium lifestyle offerings to both loyal and new patrons.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The Museum Foundation of the Philippines Inc. (MFPI)<\/strong>, organizer of the annual gathering, shared that MaArte oPEN House aims to \u201crecreate the laid back atmosphere and inspired energy\u201d of the open-house parties of the North Syquia apartments. Syquia is\u00a0one of Manila\u2019s historic buildings from the 1930s.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

MaArte oPEN House will adapt the classic open-door gatherings held at Syquia, where owners of its posh residential units would leave their doors open once a year to welcome guests for cocktails, live band music, and other exuberance.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Several rooms at The Pen will be used for guests to discover and enjoy the handpicked offerings of all\u00a065 merchants.<\/strong>\u00a0All of the exhibitors will then be placed in units, beautifully recreating the Syquia-like salons and lounge areas. Additionally,\u00a0two floors<\/strong>\u00a0of the hotel are temporarily cleared of bedroom furnishings just to relive the whole concept.<\/p>\n

Phyllis Zaballero<\/strong>, vice president of the MFPI,\u00a0explained that it was the same sense of ease and inventiveness of the Syquia that moved her and the other organizers to adapt it for the 11th MaArte Fair.<\/p>\n

She also shared how it was to become a habitue of the iconic building, saying that the parties held in the famous residential edifice were \u201cmellow, very creative, and warm.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone knew each other, so it just seemed natural that friends would bring friends along to their homes and their neighbors\u2019 homes. It was one big community where everyone felt safe and welcome,\u201d the prominent visual artist said.<\/p>\n

For\u00a0Mico Manalo<\/strong>, MFPI treasurer, the inspiration they took from the iconic social gathering will allow the annual fair to become more successful than the last.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe celebrate the relationships that have been made not just among our merchants, artists, and artisans, but also among our regular patrons. MaArte Fair has really become a sort of neighborhood of advocates for Philippine art, crafts, and heritage,\u201d Mico shared.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s participants will include\u00a0Piopio handwoven chic apparel<\/strong>,\u00a0Tim Tam Ong jewelry<\/strong>,\u00a0Aranaz luxury handmade accessories<\/strong>,\u00a0Oscar Mejia handcrafted scents<\/strong>,\u00a0Haute Home Manila hand-painted houseware and accessories<\/strong>, the\u00a0first locally assembled Filipino watch brand<\/strong>\u00a0Ibarra<\/strong>,\u00a0Siklo upcycled bags<\/strong>, among others.<\/p>\n

Visitors are also encouraged to check out new participants to the annual fair such as\u00a0Pika Pika+Pinta<\/strong>,\u00a0Coco and Tres<\/strong>,\u00a0Joel Escober<\/strong>,\u00a0Maco Custodio<\/strong>,\u00a0Lally Dizon<\/strong>,\u00a0Vesti<\/strong>,\u00a0WVN Home Textiles<\/strong>,\u00a0Wear Your Culture<\/strong>,\u00a0Whimsy by Silay Export<\/strong>,\u00a0Lootware Home<\/strong>,\u00a0Evangeline Austria<\/strong>,\u00a0DSV Studio<\/strong>, and\u00a0Matthew and Melka by Ken Samudio<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Auro bean-to-bar chocolates<\/strong>,\u00a0Green Babes<\/strong>,\u00a0Felicisimo Gourmet Homecooking<\/strong>, and\u00a0Tsaa Laya<\/strong>\u00a0will also cater to local gourmet lovers.<\/p>\n

The 11th MaArte Fair will highlight special collaborative projects such as\u00a0Tatsulok by Natalya Lagdameo<\/strong>,\u00a0Filip+Inna<\/strong>, and\u00a0Balay ni Atong<\/strong>,\u00a0a special product line by potter Ugu Bigyan and Gifts & Graces.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the three-day event will also have\u00a0MaArte Talks<\/strong>\u00a0to engage lovers of Filipino arts and culture and to soak up the compelling stories of select exhibitors.<\/p>\n

More than just bringing a vibrant concept and nostalgia to the flair,\u00a0MaArte Fair also serves as a fundraiser for the National Museum and its network.<\/p>\n

Over the years, various arts and cultural projects have benefited from the proceeds of the said trunk show, including the National Museum of Natural History, monograph exhibitions\u00a0in\u00a0Silang Church, scholarship grants for ICOMOS Philippines, and printing of visual arts catalog of the Cultural Center of the Philippines.<\/p>\n

According to Phyllis, supporting the MaArte Fair will truly benefit the cause of MFPI in two ways: promotion and appreciation of local artists and artisans, and the support for the initiatives and other projects of the National Museum.<\/p>\n
