Witness the haunting tale that is Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street<\/strong> this October 11\u00a0to 27, 2019<\/strong>\u00a0at the Theater at Solaire, Para\u00f1aque City<\/strong>. Presented by Atlantis Theatrical, this production is a part of their 20th-anniversary celebration titled “atlantisTWENTY”.<\/p>\n

The musical stars rock icon, Jett Pangan<\/strong> in the titular role of Sweeney Todd.<\/strong> Joining him is the Tony and Olivier-winning actress, Lea Salonga<\/strong> as Mrs. Nellie Lovett<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The musical thriller, based on the 1973 Christopher Bond play of the same name, features music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by Hugh Wheeler.<\/p>\n

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street<\/strong> follows the tale of Benjamin Barker, who, after 15 years of exile, returns to London as Sweeney Todd to seek revenge on Judge Turpin, the man who caused his exile.<\/p>\n

There, he meets Mrs. Lovett, the owner of a meat pie shop who later on becomes his accomplice. With the knowledge that Judge Turpin had adopted his daughter, Johanna, Todd now goes on a killing spree, slitting the throats of the gentlemen who sit on his chair.<\/p>\n

Now, all he needs is to convince Judge Turpin to sit in his barber’s chair and avenge his wife.<\/p>\n

The musical first opened in 1979 on Broadway and 1980 in the West End, with the original cast included Len Cariou and Angela Lansbury as Sweeney Todd and Mrs. Nellie Lovett, respectively.<\/p>\n

Since their first run, the musical has had a number of revivals including concert performances and national tours. In 2017, Sweeney Todd had its first off-broadway revival starring Jeremy Secomb and Siobhan McCarthy.<\/p>\n

Apart from numerous revivals on stage, the musical also had a film adaptation<\/strong> in 2007<\/strong> starring Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs. Lovett and Johnny Depp as Sweeney Todd.<\/p>\n
