One of the country’s top auction houses, Leon Gallery<\/strong> will be holding the Spectacular Mid-Year Auction this\u00a0June 22, 2019, at 2 p.m. at their space in\u00a0Eurovilla 1, Legazpi Village, Makati City.<\/strong><\/p>\n

While many are content with just seeing\u00a0artworks in museums, those who know their true value understandably want them as part of their private collection. Thus, this year’s Spectacular Mid-Year Auction should be an event to look forward to.<\/p>\n

Since 2010, Leon Gallery has been championing Filipino art, both historical and contemporary, in their auctions. For this auction, find Fernando Amorsolo’s signed and dated\u00a0Tobacco Maiden<\/em> formerly in the Tabacalera collection.<\/p>\n

\"\"Fernando Amorsolo y Cueto was one of the most important artists in the history of painting in the Philippines. This is one of his Filipina paintings.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Another star to look out during the auction\u00a0is from\u00a0Francisco Zobel, who started painting by copying Van Gogh’s Wheatfield with Cypresses<\/em>. For the more contemporary, maybe Benedicto Reyes Cabrera’s (BenCab) art\u00a0will be just as interesting such as the unique Man – Mono III<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\"\"Fernando\u00a0Zobel, a pioneer in Philippine modern art, has mentioned that his first artworks were copies of Vincent Van Gogh’s. This untitled painting is believed to be his very first oil painting.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"This painting is a\u00a0unique woodcut, collagraph, and etching on STPI hand-made shaped paper, printed from 4 woodblocks and 2 copper plates.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Other pieces\u00a0to go under the gavel will be historical documents such a collection of letters by Juan Luna and wooden Filipino colonial furniture pieces from the last quarter of the 19th century.<\/p>\n
