Inspired by the ancient histories of the East Indies, Indochina, and the Philippines – Gold in Our Veins<\/strong> is a changing exhibit of the museum that reimagines antiquity in a series of portraits by Mark Lewis Lim Higgins. The exhibit opened last\u00a0February 22, 2019<\/strong>, but you can still catch it until May 26, 2019<\/strong>, at the Ayala Museum, Makati City<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Apart from the works of Mark Lewis Lim Higgins, the exhibit also features objects from the Ayala Museum’s collection that Higgins handpicked himself in order to expand the narrative of the exhibition. In this manner, the museum’s objects will be exhibited for the first time beyond their cultural and historical significance.<\/p>\n

This is Mark Higgins’ second solo exhibition in the country. His contemporary paintings feature aristocratic men and women, ancient sea routes, scripts, and sacred idols among others. Collectively, his works commemorate Southeast Asia’s complex heritage and shared culture from the Philippine perspective. Included in this exhibit is a selection of indigenous textiles, Philippine archaeological gold, and ceramics from the Ayala Museum collection.<\/p>\n
