Space Encounters Gallery<\/strong>\u00a0blurs the line between reality and fantasy with its\u00a0two new exhibits<\/strong> opening this\u00a0April 24<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

With an aim to “promote a community that embraces reciprocity of ideas and art appreciation,” the gallery presents another eye-catching and impactful show, the\u00a0Night and Day<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Sleepwalkers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Night and Day is a solo show of artist\u00a0Sherwin C. Tan<\/strong>,\u00a0which explores the two faces of reality: light and darkness. While it\u2019s easy to dismiss his works as charming and innocent, Tan\u2019s art is not all peachy.<\/p>\n

Tan – BosomBuddies 48×36<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Dark, somber tones deliberately contrast with bright, happy colors in the two series of artworks showcased by Tan. \u201cI am not focused only on the sunny side of life… Darkness is a real part of our journey,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Tan, who has had a number of solo and group exhibits in the country and abroad, breaks all that tension with a positive perspective\u2014like finding an optimism amid the chaos. \u201cYou will see hope in each dark painting that I do,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Sleepwalkers delves into the realm between waking and dreaming. The group show features contemporary abstract artists\u00a0Marlon Magbanua<\/strong>,\u00a0Josep Pascual<\/strong>,\u00a0Jayson Muring<\/strong>, and\u00a0Michael Pastorizo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Muring – 403<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Magbanua\u2019s works tackle the existential, and asks \u201cthe question of where one originates from and how it defines man’s propensity to coexist and connect with those around him on a level beyond physical.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pascual – Love of My Life<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Pascual plays with the idiosyncrasies of emotions, as Muring pulls inspiration from childhood memories spent in bucolic Marinduque. Meanwhile, Pastorizo journeys into the world of reveries using florals and geometry as symbolism.<\/p>\n

Pastorizo – Dreamer<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

As varying as these two exhibits may seem, surreal and ethereal elements tie all these artists together. Gallery owners\u00a0Thor Balanon<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Wilmer Lopez<\/strong>\u00a0sum up what guests can expect: \u201cWe\u2019re excited to see Tan’s works interacting with this new crop of abstractionists. We want to create a very dreamlike atmosphere in these shows.\u201d<\/p>\n
