The Philippines’ first full-length\u00a0and most beloved 1957 opera, \u201cNoli Me Tangere\u201d<\/strong> (Touch Me Not<\/i><\/em>) returns to the Cultural Center of the Philippines\u00a0<\/strong>this March 8 to 10, 2019<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

As part of the celebration of Cultural Center of the Philippines’ 50th anniversary, the Noli Me Tangere Opera will once again fulfill its commitment anew to keep this masterpiece alive for the young Filipino audiences.<\/p>\n

In this 2019 all-new production, about 200 actors-classical singers, classical musicians, and production crew are joining forces to stage this grand opera!<\/p>\n

Noli Me Tangere<\/b><\/strong><\/h4>\n

The opera follows Juan Crisostomo Ibarra who returns to the Philippines after pursuing scholarly studies in Europe. He plans to open up a school and marry Maria Clara, his betrothed. However, parish priest Padre Damaso, the archenemy of the Ibarras, is out to hinder Crisostomo’s plans.<\/p>\n

Noli Me Tangere depicts the abuses suffered by the native Indios at the hands of Spanish tyrants. \u00a0The opera paints a clear picture of the so-called \u201csocial cancer\u201d<\/em> that illustrates the rotten system of governance, the illicit way of the church, and the unfavorable trade of the privileged class.<\/p>\n

Leading the cast are Nerissa De Juan and Bianca Camille Lopez (Maria Clara)<\/em>; Ivan Niccolo Nery and Nomher Nival (Juan Crisostomo Ibarra)<\/em>; Allison Cervantes, Nicola Micaelle Peralejo, and Bernadette Mamauag (Sisa)<\/em>; Joseleo Logdat (Elias)<\/em>; Greg de Leon (Pilosopo Tasyo)<\/em>; Nils Flores and Ronnie Abarquez (Padre Damaso<\/em>; Abarquez also plays Kapitan Tiyago<\/em> at certain performances)<\/em>; Lawrence Roxas (Kapitan Tiyago)<\/em>; Noel Comia Jr. and Mari Yapjoco (Basilio)<\/em>, and Santino Juan Santiago (Crispin)<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Also joining the cast are Mia Bolanos (Dona Victorina)<\/em>, Oliver Pineda (Tenyente Guevarra)<\/em>, Jose Mari Javato (Padre Salvi)<\/em>, Charina Balmores (Sinang),<\/em> Micah Galang (Andeng), Ma. Krissan Tan (Tiya Isabel)<\/em>, Timothy Racho (Alferez)<\/em>, Ruzzel Clemeno (Don Filipo)<\/em>, Tomas Virtucio Jr. (Albino)<\/em>, and Rare Jireh Columna (Victoria)<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Co-directed by New York-based event stylist Jerry Sibal, who also does the set design, and veteran actor-director Jose Jeffrey Camanag, Noli Me Tangere will be featuring 53-piece NOLI Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Herminigildo Ranera.<\/p>\n

The artistic and design team for this much-awaited production also includes Raul Sunico, project director; Albert Figueras, costume designer; Dennis Marasigan, lighting designer; Ronan Ferrer, chorus master; Dingdong Fiel, pianist and assistant musical director; Alan Dela Rama, graphics and video designer; TJ Ramos, sound engineer, and Jojo Casim, production manager.<\/p>\n

\u201cNoli Me Tangere, The Opera\u201d<\/strong> is based on the National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal’s 1887 classic novel of the same name, telling a timeless story about love, betrayal, and hope set against a repulsive backdrop of tyranny, torture, and murder.<\/p>\n

Catch the opera this March 8 to 10, 2019<\/strong> at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo, Cultural Center of the Philippines<\/strong>.\u00a0Tickets for the Gala Night<\/strong> ranges from Php 1,000 to Php 3,500<\/strong> while Matinee shows<\/strong> ranges Php 900 to Php 2,800.<\/strong> Students are entitled to a 50% discount while senior, PWD, government and military personnel are entitled to a 20% discount.<\/p>\n
