See the environmental advocacy and\u00a0beauty of the landscape that lies in the paintings of visual artist, Jim Orencio,<\/strong> on his 25th solo exhibition<\/strong> called MEANDERINGS<\/strong> this\u00a0August 16 to August 30, 2018.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

This August, discover a different touch of paradise as ArtistSpace<\/strong>\u00a0Ayala Museum<\/strong> and Pinto Art Museum<\/strong> brings us an exhibit that mirrors both the beauty and fragility of nature and the need to preserve and protect it.<\/p>\n

In the nine works that constitute the exhibition, the landscape is energized by the \u201cmeanderings\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/span>of streams and waterways as they negotiate through the stones and undergrowth, carving their\u00a0<\/span>own paths and injecting an element of motion in an otherwise still composition.<\/span><\/p>\n

Captured at different times of day\u2014as a nod to the impressionists whose emphasis was on\u00a0<\/span>light\u2014the landscape is suggested as pure and pristine, bereft of human presence and\u00a0<\/span>intervention.\u00a0<\/span>But\u00a0what lies behind are the shadowed\u00a0<\/span>looming threat such as\u00a0kaingin<\/em>, or slash-and-burn method, which are still being practiced in the country.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Through his\u00a0works, Orencio aims to simultaneously warn and advocate people the beauty and danger of the landscape.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

About the Artist<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Based in Antipolo City, Rizal, Jim Orencio<\/strong> is best known in the\u00a0<\/span>Philippine art scene as a masterful artist of landscapes. His work has since diverged into\u00a0<\/span>abstraction, collage and lyrical figurative paintings of Filipiniana but landscape painting has\u00a0<\/span>always been a constant. In the recent years, he especially emphasized the genre of landscape as\u00a0<\/span>an exemplary action parallel to his ecological advocacy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Catch his 25th solo\u00a0exhibition called MEANDERINGS<\/strong>\u00a0at the ArtistSpace<\/strong> from August 16 to 30, 2018<\/strong> with an Artist\u00a0<\/span>Reception on August 16, 2018. ArtistSpace is located at the Ayala Museum Annex, Ground Level,\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>Makati Avenue corner De La Rosa Street, Makati City<\/strong> and is open from Mondays to Sundays, 10 a.m.<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0to 7 p.m<\/strong>.
