Offering diverse genres of Japanese films, this year\u2019s Japanese Film Festival, more popularly known as EIGASAI,<\/strong> opens on July 4 to August 26, 2018<\/strong>, in select screening venues all over the Philippines!<\/span><\/p>\n

EIGASAI 2018 will be featuring the Philippine premiere of <\/span>CHIHAYAFURU Part 3<\/b>, graced by its esteemed director <\/span>Nori Koizumi, <\/b>plus special screenings and talks in collaboration with the Japan Foundation projects: <\/span>EYES for \u00a0Embracing Diversity<\/b>; \u00a0<\/span>Oriza \u00a0Hirata\u2019s \u00a0Manila Notes<\/b>; and the Spirit of Budo: The \u00a0History of Japan\u2019s Martial Arts.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

EIGASAI\u2019s 21st edition runs from July 4 to August 26, 2018,<\/strong> with\u00a015 full-feature films of diverse genres selected for more than 100 screenings across five major cities nationwide. This year\u2019s film festival is set to be unique as it collaborates with other Japan Foundation arts, cultural, and dialogue projects.<\/span><\/p>\n

EIGASAI 2018 officially kicks off with the encore screenings of the live-action film adaptation of Yuki Suetsugu\u2019s manga series <\/span>Chihayafuru<\/b>. Part 1 and Part 2 will be open to the Public on July 4 while the <\/span>Philippine premiere screening of CHIHAYAFURU Part <\/span>3<\/span> is invitational.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Opening Night Gala<\/strong> will be at the Greenbelt 5 Gallery<\/strong> on July 4<\/strong>, graced by this year\u2019s opening film director <\/span>Nori Koizumi<\/b>, who is also scheduled to give Director\u2019s Talks<\/strong> on July 6<\/strong> at the Ateneo de Manila University<\/strong> and July 7<\/strong> at Greenbelt 1,\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>Cinema 2<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"Together with the Cultural \u00a0Center of the Philippines \u00a0(CCP), the Japan Foundation continued support towards independent filmmakers brings another Japanese independent film to Manila: Of Love and Law<\/a><\/span>. \u00a0This documentary film is about a couple who operates Japan\u2019s first openly gay firm and won the Best Film Award at the 30th \u00a0Tokyo International Film Festival\u2019s Independent Japanese Cinema category.\u00a0<\/span>Director <\/span>Hikaru Toda <\/b>will be present at its Philippine premiere on August 4 at CCP during the Cinemalaya.<\/strong><\/span>\"\"<\/p>\n

There will also be a special screening and panel discussion on issues surrounding LGBTQ, minorities, and the importance of inclusion on \u00a0August 5<\/strong> at Cinematheque Centre Manila<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span>Another unique film screening and talk are organized in conjunction with \u00a0Japanese playwright-director <\/span>Oriza Hirata<\/b>\u2019s <\/span>Manila Notes <\/i><\/b>– the Philippine version of the award-winning play <\/span>Tokyo Notes <\/span><\/i>that premiered in 1994 in Japan \u2019s capital city. This Philippine-Japan collaborative theater project will be\u00a0<\/span>Tanghalang Pilipino\u2019s third play for its 32nd season, which opens on November 30, 2018<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

EIGASAI invites\u00a0Oriza Hirata <\/b>to give a one-time special talk during the EIGASAI at CCP Dream Theater<\/strong> on <\/em>August 17<\/strong> along with the screening of <\/span>When the Curtain Rises <\/b>(<\/span><\/a>\u5e55\u304c\u4e0a\u304c\u308b), \u00a0an adaptation of his novel about a high school drama club in a provincial town and\u00a0<\/span>Akira Kurosawa\u2019s <\/span>SEVEN SAMURAI <\/b>(<\/span><\/a>\u4e03\u4eba\u306e\u4f8d) \u00a0to be screened at the UP Film Institute \u2013 Cine Adarna.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
