Thousands of books will be gathered around its premises in the Ayala Triangle. As in previous years, D\u00eda del Libro will feature top bookstores and publishing houses that will be selling a wide array of books at a 20% discount. Following the tradition in Spain, every book purchase would entitle one to a free rose.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"D\u00eda del Libro 2017 Manila\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/D_w2APguXiQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Apart from the book market, visitors to D\u00eda del Libro will be treated to poetry recitals, free Spanish classes, book presentations, street art to commemorate de 200 years of Prado Museum, games, as well as activities for the children.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-14673\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/event\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/04\/Concert-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/event\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/04\/Concert.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/event\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/04\/Concert-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/event\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/04\/Concert-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One of the main features of the day will be a free concert by the Manila Symphony Orchestra. The \u201cConcierto en el parque,\u201d scheduled at 5:30 pm, will feature classical pieces from the Spanish and Filipino repertoire.<\/p>\n<p>First introduced in Manila by Instituto Cervantes in 2006, the tradition of D\u00eda del Libro began in Barcelona, Spain. To the present, the tradition is commemorated on St. George\u2019s Day (April 23), during which men and women exchange roses and books. This date also honors the demise of two of history\u2019s greatest writers \u2013 Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare \u2013 who coincidentally died on the very same day, April 23, 1616. These significant incidences prompted the UNESCO in 1995 to declare April 23 as \u201cWorld Book and Copyright Day\u201d to instill the love of reading among the youth and to promote respect for the rights of authors over their literary and artistic works. April is also the birth month of the classic Filipino poet Francisco Balagtas, and to honor him the NCCA declared April the National Literature Month.<\/p>\n<p>After an enthusiastic reception by Makati citizens in 2016 and 2017, the Pop-up Library \u201cThe Book Stop\u201d comes back to Ayala Triangle. The project, designed by WTA Architecture &amp; Design Studio, is a non-profit library for the entire community, where visitors can interact in lively discussions with fellow readers and share their love of books, borrow volumes for free and exchange books. The aim here is reinvention &#8211; reinvigorating and re-establishing the library in Filipino society.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rewrite a classic<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"683\" height=\"1024\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-14674\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/event\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/04\/del-dia-escriboelquijote-20180413-d1-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/event\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/04\/del-dia-escriboelquijote-20180413-d1-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/event\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/04\/del-dia-escriboelquijote-20180413-d1-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/event\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/04\/del-dia-escriboelquijote-20180413-d1-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/event\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/04\/del-dia-escriboelquijote-20180413-d1.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Instituto Cervantes is challenging visitors to join a Quixotic attempt: to copy Don Quixote de La Mancha by hand. Among the events organized by Instituto Cervantes to commemorate the Day of Miguel de Cervantes is the Rewriting of Don Quijote. The Spanish cultural center is in search of 500 book-loving volunteers to take part in a \u201cQuixotic\u201d endeavor: to hand-write Cervantes\u2019 novel. The final hand-written book will be deposited in the Library of Instituto Cervantes. People interested to take part in the writing of Don Quijote can join on the same day with no prior registration. Participants in the handwriting chain will receive a rose.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from the wide arrange of books to be sold on D\u00eda del Libro, more exciting activities are lined-up for this special day. La Liga, the Spanish Football League, will invite Manile\u00f1os to score a goal in its \u201cChuta-Gol\u201d, a game with cool prizes!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-14672\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/event\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/04\/pop-up_library_web-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/event\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/04\/pop-up_library_web.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/event\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/04\/pop-up_library_web-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/event\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/04\/pop-up_library_web-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The day will be filled with more activities for children. At 11 am, storytellers Kooky Tuason and Marty Tengco will delight kids with tales in both English and Filipino. At 2 pm there will be a Silent Disco for children.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to the collaboration of publishing houses like Anvil or bookshops like National Bookstore, visitors will have the opportunity to meet authors, who will be signing their works. Among the writers who will be signing copies\u00a0will be Ambeth Ocampo, Robert Magnuson, Pierra Calasanz-Labrador, and\/or Yvette Fernandez. Fil-American novelist Elaine Castillo will sign copies of her novel &#8220;America is Not the Heart&#8221; a2 pmpm, while Spanish writer Ramon Vilar\u00f3 will launch his book Mabuhay.
