Centenarians are set to receive a P100,000 \u201ccentenarian gift\u201d among other incentives as well as receive recognition from the government for reaching 100 under Republic Act (R.A. 10868) or the Centenarians Act of 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) for R.A. 10868 was signed last September 26 by Social Welfare Sec. Judy Taguiwalo, Health Sec. Paulyn Jean Rosell-Ubial, and Interior Sec. Ismael Sueno. Their respective departments (Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Health, Department of Interior and Local Government) were the ones tasked to write the IRR, along with the Commission on Filipinos Overseas.<\/span><\/p>\n

Under R.A. 10868<\/a>, all Filipinos who live to 100 years, otherwise known as a centenarian, <\/em>will receive a Letter of Felicitation from the President and a centenarian gift of P100,000 whether you\u2019re in the Philippines or not. In addition, centenarians will also receive a plaque of recognition and a cash incentive from their respective cities or municipal governments, to be decided by their local government unit.<\/span><\/p>\n

These recognitions and gifts will be given on the first Sunday of October, which will now be known as National Respect for Centenarians Day. It will be celebrated as a part of the annual Elderly Filipino Week, celebrated from October 1 \u2013 7.<\/span><\/p>\n

Surviving and deceased centenarians were not left out in the law. Surviving centenarians shall be honored on the celebration of the first National Respect for Centenarians Day or 120 days after the signing of the IRR, whichever comes first. They will receive the same centenarian gift along with a plaque of recognition.<\/span><\/p>\n

The nearest surviving relative of a deceased centenarian, on the other hand, will receive a posthumous plaque of recognition in honor of their centenarian relative.<\/span><\/p>\n

Funding for the act\u2019s initial year will come from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, with subsequent funding to be included in the General Appropriations Act.<\/span><\/p>\n
