For this year\u2019s Break the Surface themed Cinemalaya Film Festival, Eduardo Roy Jr.\u2019s Pamilya Ordinaryo<\/em> bagged the most number of awards at the recently held Awards Night on August 14 (Sunday) at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Main Theater.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Lauded for its \u201cstrong sense of realism and the mix of narrative and the use of real CCTV footages,\u201d Eduardo Roy Jr.\u2019s Pamilya Ordinaryo<\/em> has undoubtedly produced a successful film which has made them bag five major awards such as the Best Film, Best Direction, Best Performance of an Actress, Best Editing, and the NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) Award for the full length category. As Best Film winner, Pamilya Ordinaryo<\/em> won P350,000 cash award and the Cinemalaya Balanghai trophy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pamilya Ordinaryo<\/em> has bested eight full-length feature films which NETPAC praised for its \u201cgrim but engaging narrative about a non-ordinary family.\u201d\u00a0The film is a compelling portrait of teenage street dwellers (Aries and Jane) and their desperate search for their kidnapped baby (Arjan). Winner of the Best Performance by an Actress award is newcomer Hasmine Killip who played Jane, while winner of the Best Performance by an Actor is Tommy Abuel of Dagsin<\/em> by Renato Magadia Jr.<\/span><\/p>\n

Other films who won prestigious awards are Jason Paul Laxamana\u2019s Mercury is Mine<\/em> which bagged the Special Jury Prize and Best Screenplay award and Roderick Cabrido\u2019s Tuos<\/em> which won the Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Sound, Best Original Music Score, and Audience Choice awards.<\/span><\/p>\n

The best supporting actress award was garnered to Elizabeth Oropesa of I America, while the best supporting actor award was given to the ensemble cast of Hiblang Abo consisting of Lou Veloso, Jun Urbano, Leo Rialp, and Nanding Josef.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the Short Feature category, the awards were dominated Isabel Quesada\u2019s\u00a0Pektus<\/em>\u00a0and Ramon A.L. Garilao\u2019s\u00a0Fish Out of Water<\/em>.\u00a0 The Best Film and Best Screenplay awards went to\u00a0Pektus<\/em>\u00a0while\u00a0Fish Out of Water<\/em>\u00a0won Special Jury Prize, Best Direction.\u00a0 The NETPAC Award was garnered by\u00a0Ang Maangas, Ang Marikit , At ang Makata<\/em>\u00a0by Jose Ibarra Guballa while the Audience Choice Award went to\u00a0Forever Natin<\/em>\u00a0by Cyrus Valdez.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cinemalaya is a project of the Cinemalaya Foundation, the Cultural Center of the Philippines in partnership with Ayala Malls Cinemas.\u00a0 Many of these films have won awards in local and international competitions and festivals. Through the annual festival, Cinemalaya has showcased over 1,000 works by independent filmmakers including full feature films, shorts, documentaries, Filipino film classics, and art films.
