Open Competition and Short Feature directors gather with the organizers of the Cinemalaya Film Festival.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">During the press conference held earlier today, July 7, at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Main Lobby, festival director Chris Millado gave us the 10 Next Best Reasons to Not Miss this year\u2019s Cinemalaya Film Festival: <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><strong>1<em>. Cinemalaya x Eigasai. <\/em><\/strong>As you\u2019ve probably <a href=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/event\/event\/eigasai-2016\/\" target=\"_blank\">heard from us earlier this year<\/a>, Eigasai has partnered with Cinemalaya to showcase two of Japan\u2019s best independent films during the Cinemalaya Film Festival, namely <em>Ken and Kazu<\/em> (2015) and <em>August in Tokyo<\/em> (2014). These films will be shown free of charge during the 2-week film festival.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><em>Also read: <a href=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/event\/event\/eigasai-2016\/\" target=\"_blank\">Eigasai 2016<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><strong>2.<\/strong><em><strong> Experience Asian films via the Asian Showcase.<\/strong> <\/em>Apart from <em>Ken and Kazu<\/em> and <em>August in Tokyo<\/em>, viewers will be able to catch the best Asian films as chosen by the Network for Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC):<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><em>&#8211; Child of Debt <\/em>(India\/Canada, 2015)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><em>&#8211; Mina Walking<\/em> (Afghanistan\/Canada, 2015)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><em>&#8211; Motor Bicycle<\/em> (Sri Lanka, 2015)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><em>&#8211; Stranger <\/em>(Kazakhstan, 2015)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><em>&#8211; The Kids <\/em>(Taiwan, 2015)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><em>&#8211; Under Heaven <\/em>(Kyrgyzstan, 2015)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><em>&#8211; Until I Lose My Breath <\/em>(Turkey-Germany, 2015)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><em>&#8211; River Road <\/em>(China, 2014)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><strong>3.<em> Francis Xavier Pasion tribute. <\/em><\/strong>In honor of the late Cinemalaya director Francis Pasion who passed away last March 2016, his films <em>Buwaya<\/em> (Cinemalaya 2014 Best Film, Best Cinematography, Best Score), <em>Jay <\/em>(Cinemalaya 2008 Best Film, Best Editing, Best Actor), and <em>Sampaguita <\/em>(2010 Cinemalaya Special Jury Prize) will all be shown during the festival.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><strong>4. <em>Lav Diaz \u201cfeels\u201d long and short versions.<\/em> <\/strong>Award-winning director Lav Diaz, who has competed in the previous editions of Cinemalaya, will have two of his films shown in the Special Screenings section: the 8-hour <em>Hele sa Hiwagang Hinagpis<\/em>, which won the Silver Bear Alfred Bauer Prize at the 66<sup>th<\/sup> Berlin International Film Festival, and his 16-minute short film <em>Ang Araw Bago ang Wakas<\/em>, which competed at the 62<sup>nd<\/sup> International Short Film Festival Oberhausen in Germany.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><strong>5.<em> See exactly why Jaclyn Jose won Best Actress at Cannes.<\/em> <\/strong>We all know that veteran Filipina actress Jaclyn Jose <a href=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/2016\/05\/23\/filipino-actress-jaclyn-jose-wins-best-actress-at-cannes-film-festival\/\" target=\"_blank\">won<\/a> Best Actress this year at the Cannes Film Festival. If you\u2019ve been to the CCP building, then you should have noticed their green lawn in front. During the festival, they\u2019ll be screening <em>Lakbay 2 Love<\/em>, which stars Solenn Heussaff, Dennis Trillo, and Kit Thompson. Get all the feels you need for free! We\u2019ll keep you posted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><strong>7.<em> Meet up with Celebrity Navigators.<\/em> <\/strong>What are celebrity navigators, you ask? Well, according to Millado, they are either young cast members from the competing Cinemalaya films or young actors and actresses who have competed at Cinemalaya before. They\u2019ll be going to the festival to both prime audiences for their movie and be available for informal talks after their film.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><strong>8.<em> Pitch your dream project to producers.<\/em><\/strong> In partnership with the Directors\u2019 Guild of the Philippines, Inc. (DGPI), Cinemalaya will help budding film makers get a head start with their dream projects through the 2016 Cinemalaya DGPI Film Pitching on August 6 at the CCP Silangan Hall.
