(Photo grabbed from Victor Barreiro Jr. via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rappler.com\/nation\/137547-microsoft-deped-self-contained-mobile-classroom\" target=\"_blank\">Rappler<\/a>)<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">In an effort to bring quality education to far-flung areas in the Philippines, the Department of Education (DepED) and Microsoft Philippines teamed up together to launch EGG, a self-contained, transportable classroom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">This self-sustaining and fully-functional learning facility called EGG can accommodate more than 30 students which can easily be set up in three days. It is an innovative approach to provide education anywhere in the country, which can generate its own water and power system, and it also has its own internet connectivity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">This EGG can be dropped off by helicopter, truck or boat. According to Karrie Ilagan, General Manager for Microsoft Philippines, \u201cWe believe now is the perfect time to fully harness the power of technology and help Filipino learners get a 21<sup>st<\/sup> century education through connectivity for all.\u201d This EGG is also equipped with IT tools which aid both students and teachers. It can also be used as a storm shelter for areas where they can be deployed. EGG\u2019s internet is connected to internet via TV White Space, an unused VHF and UHF TV channels which can deliver broadband access over wider areas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">The EGG can also serve as an independent classroom or can be stacked together with other EGGs to \u201cform clusters, pop-up classrooms, or a whole school,\u201d according to DepED\u2019s press release.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">The first EGG will be launched in Bohol on July.
