During the turnover ceremony, Supervising Tourism Officer Jerick Lacson handed the plaque of recognition to Mayor Maria Gina Lizares at the Government Center on Monday, April 4.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe KAP confers to the City of Sipalay the title \u2018Kite Tourism Capital of the Philippines\u2019 in grateful recognition for the enduring commitment in promoting the traditional Filipino kite culture as an annual tourism activity,\u201d the plaque read.<\/p>\n<p>Lacson said this recognition is an affirmation of the city\u2019s efforts in promoting sustainable tourism by showcasing the kite festival as a family-friendly activity, kite flying as an eco-friendly sport, and kite making as a way to promote local arts and culture.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-64572\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2022\/04\/rsz_1sipalay2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2022\/04\/rsz_1sipalay2.jpg 400w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2022\/04\/rsz_1sipalay2-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">IMAGE from LGU of Sipalay City Facebook page<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>He added that the latest recognition received by the city serves as a challenge for stakeholders \u201cto strive, to innovate, to be better, and to improve\u201d Sipalay\u2019s image and quality as a tourist destination.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s Burangoy Kite Festival, which was among the activities alongside the city\u2019s 21st Charter Anniversary, was the first after it was suspended since 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The kite flying exhibitions were conducted from March 30 &#8211; April 3 while the actual competition was held on March 31 along the Poblacion beach.
